Clearly Christmas
Ring out the bells and decorate
Everything in sight;
Mount yard displays, and rooftop too;
String miles of coloured light.
Not some midwinter festival,
Nor somber solstice rite,
This celebration once a year,
Brim-bursting with delight.
This is Christmas, unabashed;
Intrusive, joyful, loud
As camel caravans at night
Or caroling angel crowd.
As gleeful as the scrambling child
Wide wondrous-eyed at dawn,
Give voice and hand and heart to joy
Before the season’s gone.
Beyond all ritual, commerce, myth,
Or present world’s despair
Let friends and family be the gift
We all are blessed to share.
