I have a practice of creating a Christmas poem each year, usually accompanied by a graphic that Beverly creates. Sometimes I get-around-to/am-motivate-to write a poem as prospectus for the coming year. Here's a distillation of my hopes for 2026. More later.
What do you think?
New Year 2026
Past the angry rage of rockets,
eyes are drawn to softer light.
In the dark of present midnight
every candle captures sight.
Comes a moment in the maelstrom.
Comes a pause, the engine's thrum.
Madness of the winds of wartime
comes a silent respite from.
Let the wings of grace enfolding
keep us family, fear forestall.
In communal nest of safety
each for every; all for all.
Not for Christmas only ever
kindness triumphs over strife,
gives a lamp upon the pathway,
gives a purpose to a life
Your compassion for a stranger
often, all the difference makes;
every action serves solution
when humanity awakes.
Past the anger, bombs and rockets
in your beacon's softer light,
where was only pain and darkness,
may your candle hold our sight.
